History of The Gary M. Smith Foundation
The Mission of the Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. is simply to help others by providing financial assistance and support to children, young adults, and families in need throughout the southeast and mid-western United States. Our principal charter is to raise money and distribute financial assistance to organizations who share a common belief in our Mission. The Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. is honored to support Camp Care based in Charlotte, NC. Camp Care is an organization staffed by volunteers which is dedicated to providing free long-term outdoor camping experiences to children and their siblings who are cancer survivors or whom are currently battling cancer. The Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. also supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in an effort to help find a cure for this disease which afflicts so many children around the world. Additionally, the Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. awards a financial scholarship each year in honor of Gary, to a graduating senior at Brownsburg High School (Indiana) who plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Our Board of Directors, which is comprised of eight non-compensated volunteers, has also approved annual financial contribution and support to other charitable causes including Indiana University Hospitals Cancer Research, The Little Red Door, The Thomas Burnett Family Foundation (one of the heroic passengers of Flight 93 on 9/11), the sponsoring of under privileged families during the holidays, and support of other charities selected each year. The financial revenue generated for the Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. is derived from three primary sources: 1) Private donations 2) The Gary M. Smith Foundation , Inc. Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, founded in 1991 and 3) The Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. Comedy Night. These annual events, along with periodic financial support has enabled the Gary M. Smith Foundation, Inc. to award over $100,000 in financial assistance and support to others in Gary’s name since the Foundation’s inception.
